Jei tu ramus, kada visi klejoja,
Pametę galvas, kaltina tave;
Tiki savim, kada kiti dvejoja,
Ir jų dvejonių nelaikai kalte;
Jei moki kantriai laukt ir nepavargti,
Už piktą šmeižtą nesiteist šmeižtu,

Jei tavo svajos remiasi tikrove,
O mintys – ne vedliai, o palyda;
Jei tu, sutikęs Negandą ir Šlovę,
Gali bodėtis viena ir kita;
Jei kęst gali, kai tavo tiesą šventą
Derglioja niekšai, siekdami klastos,
Kai žlunga tai, kas sunkiai užgyventa,
Ir vėl pradėti viską iš pradžios;

Jei visą, ką anksčiau esi laimėjęs,
Gali lengva širdim ant kortos dėt,
Pralošt, vėl griebtis to, nuo ko pradėjęs,
Ir niekada po to nesigailėt;
Jei savo raumenų ir dvasios galią
Gali valdyti taip, kaip sumanai,
Ir nepalūžt, kai teturi tik Valią,
Kuri tau tyliai kužda: „Privalai!“;

Jei su minia gali būt sąžiningas,
O su karaliais – paprastas, kuklus;
Jei priešams ir draugams esi teisingas
Ir su tavim kiekvienas pagarbus;-
Jei tu jauti, kaip greitai bėga Laikas
Ir jį matuot sekundėmis gali,
Tada tu būsi tikras Žemės vaikas,
Tada, sūnau, tu tapsi Žmogumi.
