I arrive covered in sweat, an awful river
under my trench coat, under the jumper, under my blouse
in the unmovable air of this foreign train
my eyelids open heavily on this humid city
when I slept, I slept with my mouth open
and it felt like I was dead
then I make my way slowly, my calves swollen
barely feeling the floor, through this stale morning
like a woman after many children
like a woman with the next one to come
like a woman under the pitiless sky
I pause at the exit and inhale the smell of cigarettes
that they smoke here
