The breeze was gentle, but cool. Leaves of the trees silently rustled. The sun was setting down behind the mountain with great snow top that slowly sank into the sea of clouds. Slowly but surely the night came. Silver moon was rising up in the sky, little stars sparkling like precious diamonds glint in the sky one by one.
The flame of the fire in the fire place broke down the darkness in the room. Twilight was more pleasant than darkness. The window was open and silver moon glanced through the window. The room was very ordinary: wooden table, few chairs and a bed. In the bad lay a man. His face was pale, he breathed very heavily. He was an old man, but his grace was still there. His white and grey hair lay on the pillow. His eyes were closed; thin lips still had the pale smile. He didn’t move; just lay there in silence and twilight.
Doors silently opened and a man walked into the room. He looked at the man in the bed and walked up to him. He sat on the chair and took his hand. His eyes were sad and full of sorrow.
*Grandfather…*he whispered silently being afraid he might wake him up.
The old man opened his eyes and looked at him. He tried to smile.
*you’re here my grandson. Why are your eyes so sad?*he spoke slowly in sotto voice* this is natural… my time came. And I shall leave, I’m not afraid… I’m just waiting.*
*are you waiting for her to come?*the young man asked while smiling gently.
*yes, Aeron, I am indeed waiting for her. I can not die till I see her. Then I shall go in peace*
*and you think she will come? Many years passed grandfather… too many for a man to remember. She… she might be dead by now…Maybe she didn’t live such a long life like you did*he tried to speak kindly for he was afraid this may hurt his grandfather. His grandfather still had hope and Aeron didn’t want to take faith from him.
The old man smiled.
*She will come…. we’re bound to each other. When we were young, we made a mistake. I regret I wasn’t strong enough… I was a fool… I got scared… But this was destined to happen, we’re never meant to be together…*as he spoke his eyes sparkled.
*was she beautiful?*Aeron asked noticing that talk of her made his grandfather happy.
*She was the most beautiful maiden I’ve ever seen. I still see her in my dreams… Her long fair hair…eyes as blue as the sky… gentle smile…enchanting voice…. *the old man closed his eyes and smile appeared on his face. In his dreams he was with her again. Both young, both happy.
Aeron heard noise outside the room. He stood up being quite angry for the noise could disturb sweet dreams of his grandfather. He was about to walk to the door as the doors opened and a figure dressed in brown cloak walked in. After that stranger one of his grandfather’s servants walked in followed by another.
*what is going on?*Aeron looked at the three, being puzzled and not so pleasant*please leave the room for you disturb my grandfather!
*this is what I tried to explain to Emrot!*one of the servants pointed to another*but he insisted on letting this stranger in! I couldn’t stop them!*
Aeron looked at those to whom his servant was referring to. He wanted to insist on explanation but Emrot spoke first*please let….*he didn’t finish for the stranger ran to the bed. Surprisingly no one heard a sound of his footsteps.
*please go away!*Aeron turned to the stranger*my grandfather…*
at this moment the old man opened his eyes. He was looking at the stranger and suddenly he smiled.
*you came…*the old man whispered. His eyes were sparkling with joy. This face of his grandfather Aeron had never seen before.
*I told you to let her in!*Emrot smiled.
The stranger took of his cloak. Long fair hair fell down like a river, eyes blue as the sky glanced at them, smile gentle but sad was sacred to the old man in bed.
*I promised I shall come…*she spoke in gentle voice. She sat down on the bed and took his hand* I knew your time came. I wouldn’t let you leave this world without saying good bye…*she didn’t stop smiling although a tear sparkled in the corner of her eye.
*an elf…*muttered Aeron while looking at her. Not even in his dreams he thought of that. He never suspected that his grandfather’s lady of dreams as he called her was an elf… Now many things were clear. This is why they couldn’t be together; this is why his grandfather never mentioned who she was.
*You’re still the same since I saw you for the last time…You didn’t change. I wanted to talk to you, tell you I regret I was such a fool…*the old man reached his hand and touched her cheek as she leaned to him*
*you were not a fool. You did what was right. Some things are not in our power to change. Some things aren’t destined to happen. You lived a long happy and joyful life. There’s nothing else I wished for you*she kissed him on his forehead.
*All I desired was to see you before I go. My wish is fulfilled now; I can go in peace and happiness. You’re so beautiful my little elf… my lady of dreams…*he closed his eyes. He stopped breathing. She sat there and held his hand. Then she leaned and kissed him in his lips.
*Namaarie meldanya*she whispered and stood up. There were tears in her eyes. She glanced at Aeron*He went in peace… I kept my promise. I came here to say goodbye. I must go now.
*He was waiting for you, wasn’t he? You were the one my grandfather loved…*Aeron whispered still being not able to escape astonishment*If you loved each other why didn’t you two be together?
She smiled and answered in sad voice*some things aren’t meant to happen. Fire and water can’t be one…*tear sparkling like a diamond ran down her face. She glanced at the old man for the last time* mára mesta oialë …meldonyel…*she whispered, put on her cloak and disappeared into the darkness. Never again was she seen…
Till one day on the grave stone of his grandfather Aeron found the same elvish words written on it and an amulet with a lock of fair hair lying on the ground. When he looked around in the horizon he saw a cloaked figure on a white horse riding away.

Be to skaitytųsi lengviau. Laukiu nesulaukiu kūrinių parašytų prancūzų, italų, japonų ir elfų kalbomis. Tegyvuoja poliglotai.
